Obituary of Kathie E. Yonkers

New Hartford-Kathie Yonkers passed away Wednesday afternoon September 11, 2024 at the Silver Lake Hospital of Newark, NJ with her loving family at her side. She was born on October 14, 1946 in Oneida, New York a daughter of the late Edward and Ethel (Snider) Deal. Kathie was a graduate of the Vernon Verona Sherrill Schools; Vassar Brothers Hospital of Nursing; and received her master's degree in nursing from Syracuse University. She was a member of the Sigma Theta Tau National Honor Society of Nursing. On July 12, 1969 Kathie and John D. Yonkers married at the Vernon Center United Methodist Church and shared that loving vow of over forty-six years together until John's death on April 23, 2016. Kathie had a prolific and varied career in nursing, which included nursing, teaching, and nursing administration positions at St. Luke's Hospital, Oneida County, Visiting Nurse Association of Utica and Oneida County, Acacia Home Care, MetLife, and SUNY College of Technology. In her spare times she loved to read, craft, cross-stitch, spend time with her family and friends, walk, and care for her animals. Surviving are her three children, Marc (Michele) Yonkers, Jill (John) Emmons, and Eric Yonkers, her beloved grandsons, Aaron Yonkers, Andrew Emmons and Jackson Emmons, one sister, Kareen Williamson, and two brothers David Deal and Daniel (Melodie) Deal and her nieces and nephew. The family would like to express a special thanks to Kathie's neighbors for their years of care and friendship. Family and friends are invited to call on Friday, September 20, 2024 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Malecki Funeral Home, 23 Front Street, Vernon, NY. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 21, 2024 at 10:00 a.m at the funeral home. Burial will be in Skinner Cemetery, Lyon Road, Vernon Center, NY.
