Obituary
Obituary of Louise H. Thompson
Please share a memory of Louise to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Louise Thompson, 91 of Sherrill NY, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones on Wednesday August 21, 2024. She was born on her family farm in Verona, NY to Gladys (Hyde) and Gernald Tracy on November 25, 1932.
She attended the Sand Hill Road one room schoolhouse. After graduating from Verona HS in 1951, she earned a degree at CCBI in Syracuse NY and began working as a secretary at Revere Copper and Brass in Rome NY. In 1954, Louise met the love of her life, Harold Thompson in Norwich, NY. They were married in Verona on July 28, 1956. They were blessed with almost 66 years of happy marriage until his death on July 7, 2022.
After raising her children, Louise rejoined the workforce at the Madison County Historical Society. In 1986, she and Harold purchased the Oneida Agway store and started Thompson Agway and later Thompson Appliances until their retirement in 2003. Louise was very active with the Seneca Street PTO and served as room mother several times. She was named Booster of the Year in 1981. She later served on the Board of the Hazel Carpenter Home and was very active in the Oneida Hospital Auxiliary. Louise was a dedicated volunteer at OHC for many years and acted as assistant to the director in her absence! This earned her the Oneida Rotary "Roses to the Living" Award.
Louise was very strong in her faith and was a lifelong member of The Verona 7th Day Baptist Church, where she used her God given talents to serve as the organist from the time she learned to play as a young woman. She played for countless weddings and so enjoyed running into the couples that she played for. She also served for several years as the organist at the Baptist Church in Canastota and lovingly referred to it as her "Sunday Church". She served in many more roles at SDB, too numerous to mention.
She was an avid golfer and bowler and won a NYS bowling championship in the late 1960's. She loved country music, especially Johnny Cash and Kenny Rogers, and enjoyed playing shuffleboard & mini golf with Harold when they wintered in Zephyr Hills, Florida. She also enjoyed playing cards with friends and was a member of the seniors group in Westmoreland. Her greatest love though was spending time with her children, grandchildren & great grandchildren, especially attending their sporting events and performances of any type. She led by example of what it means to be a mom and a grandma, and she will be missed more than words can say.
She leaves behind her children - Tom (Christine) Thompson, Paul (Chrissy) Thompson, and Becky (Bob) Williams, her grandchildren - Matt (Maddie) Winchell, Peter (Liz) Thompson, Stephanie Thompson, Andrew (Tara) O'Connor-Watts, Austin (Arianna) Williams, Zach Thompson, and Andrew Williams, her great grandchildren - Reece and Isla Thompson, her sisters Barbara Bean and Sharon (Bill) Williams, her brothers Richard (Claudia) Whiting, Gary Tracy, countless nieces and nephews and a loving network of family and friends who will miss her dearly. We would like to thank her amazing group of caregivers that allowed us to keep her home for these last couple of years, especially Brenda McGrath and Stacia Unczur who were there from the start of our parent's care needs.
Louise loved to make people happy, to spend time with family, and was an inspiration to so many people. To be absent from the body is to be present with Christ and we take great comfort in knowing she is now in the loving arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Friends and family may call on Tuesday August 27, 2024 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Malecki Funeral Home, 464 Sherrill Rd., Sherrill, NY and a celebration of Louise's life will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, August 28th at the Verona 7th Day Baptist Church on Blackman's Corners Road, Verona, NY with Pastor Russell Johnson presiding.
