Obituary of MSgt. Shane W. Warner

Munnsville-MSgt. Shane W. Warner, age 44, of Munnsville passed away early Friday morning May 24, 2024 from injuries sustained in a utility task vehicle accident.

  He was born in Oneida, New York on December 10, 1979 a son of Melanie S. Wilson and the late George G. Warner, and was a graduate of Wells Central School.

  Surviving are his two children, Brooks and Gabrielle Warner of Speculator, his mother, Melanie W. Brewer of Munnsville, siblings, Melvin “Bub” Fisher and sister-in-law, Candace of Munnsville, Monica Swift and brother in-law Jon of Holland Patent, John Brewer of Liverpool, his maternal grandmother, Edith Wilson of Munnsville, paternal grandfather George Warner of Munnsville and many nieces and nephews. 

  Shane was predeceased by his father George G. Warner, step-father Jack Brewer, paternal grandmother Catherine (Katie) Warner and maternal grandfather Richard Wilson.

  He was a devoted father, who could not hide his ear-to-ear grin when sharing his kids’ latest escapades. He always made time to share his infectious wit and lend a helping hand to his family and friends. 

  In his spare times he was an avid outdoorsman enjoying all the pleasures nature could give him, hunting, fishing and camping. He also enjoyed playing cards, especially a good game of pitch, and was an avid reader. 

   On September 31, 2000 Shane enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving as an Avionics Systems Specialist, maintaining the F-15E Strike Eagle aircraft at the 90th Fighter Squadron, Elmendorf AFB, Alaska.  From there, Shane transferred to the 109th Airlift Wing, Stratton Air National Guard Base, Schenectady, New York. During his time at the 109th AW, Shane served as a Communication Specialist, supporting the wing's mission to provide airlift support via the LC-130H Hercules airlifters to the National Science Foundation's South Pole research program.  Shane’s final assignment brought him to the 222d Command and Control Squadron, Griffiss Air Force Base / Air Force Research lab Rome, NY, where he served as the Commander’s Support Staff Superintendent.  In this role, Shane supported the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) in the development and employment of the world’s most capable and innovative overhead reconnaissance satellites, used to collect intelligence for U.S. national security, and to support disaster relief and humanitarian efforts.

While in the Air Force, Shane obtained his Associate of Applied Science degree in Business Administration / Logistics Management from the Community College of the Air Force.  Additionally, he deployed to both Antarctica in support of the National Science Foundation’s “Operation Deep Freeze”, as well as to South Korea.  As a reflection of his exemplary service over the span of 24 years, Shane was awarded the Air Force Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, Air Reserve Forces Meritorious Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Antarctica Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Nuclear Deterrence Operations Service Medal, as well as many other medals, ribbons, and decorations.

The family will greet friends at a Celebration of Life on Tuesday, June, 4th at the American Legion Post 54 of Munnsville, 6311 Hill Road, Munnsville, NY, 13409. Military honors will begin promptly at 2:00.   In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to the Munnsville Legion.  Arrangements are with the Malecki Funeral Home of Sherrill.
