Obituary of George B. Conley

George Bingham Conley, 89, of Canastota, NY, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 21, 2024. He was born on May 11, 1934, in Rome, NY, on his family farm. He was the son of Marcellus H. Conley and Esther (Bingham) Conley. He graduated from Verona High School in 1953. On August 10, 1957, George was united in marriage to Thelma Kobler. Their marriage lasted 66 years until his death. He was a self-employed dairy farmer. He was also employed by VVS and Birnie Bus as a bus driver. George enjoyed bowling, fishing, numerous sports, farm shows, and watching rodeos and various music shows on RFDTV. He loved spending time with his family, mowing lawns, and listening to bluegrass, gospel and traditional country music. George is survived by his wife, Thelma, his children, Darlene Portner, Marcella Bancroft, Daryl (Tania) Conley, Jim (Leah) Conley, Mike Conley, Mariellen Conley, and Kathleen (Joe) Knouf; a sister, Joyce (Clifford) Kitchen, 21 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Frank (Jeanette) Conley, and sisters, Marcella and Doris Conley. Services will be held on Friday, April 26, 2024 at Friendship Baptist Church 4964 Rome-New London Rd, Rome NY. Calling hours are from 10:30am-12:30pm with the funeral immediately following.
