Obituary of Roger I. Emmons

Durhamville-Roger I. Emmons, age 86, formerly of Durhamville, retiring to North Carolina, Tennessee, and more recently residing with his daughter in Holland Patent, passed away Monday afternoon, April 15, 2024 at the Abraham House of Rome where he was surrounded by the love and support of his family.

He was born on December 27, 1937 in Vernon, New York a son of the late Isaac Albert and Anna Ruth (Gouger) Emmons and attended the Verona, Oneida and Eaton Schools.

On March 11, 1958 Roger and Yvonne "Bonnie" Landry were united in marriage in Oneida, NY and shared that loving vow of over fifty years together until Bonnie's death on December 31, 2013.

Roger was employed at the Oneida Limited Silversmith knife plant for several years before starting his dream job as the owner and operator of Roger's Garage in Durhamville retiring in 1991.

Roger was a volunteer Fireman for Durhamville Fire Department for over 20 years. In his spare time, he enjoyed bowling, softball, card games with family and friends, finding an underpriced item at a sale and times at the Moose Club. He also enjoyed family picnics at Pixley Falls State Park and watching NASCAR and stockcar races.

Surviving are his 5 daughters, Rhonda Emmons (Kim Munz), Brenda Bourgeois (Scott), Kimberly Oaks (Wayne Taylor), Donna Joslyn (Dale), Melissa Damuth. Two sons, Rodnie Emmons (Tammy) and Richard Emmons. 33 Grandchildren, 47 Great Grandchildren, and 1 Great Grandson. His brother George Emmons (Edith) and sister Dorothy Adcox. Half-brothers Albert/Sonny (Cathy), Wayne (Laura), Ralph (Sherrie), and Edward (Joan). Half-sisters Hazel Curtis (Al), Betty Markle (Carl), Esther Webber (Dick). His loving and special caretaker/friend Karen O'Toole.

Roger was predeceased by his son Robert, grandson Guy Benjamin, his parents, brothers James, Pete, Charlie, Tony, Bill, Paul, Clifford, Reginald and Stanley. Sisters Margie, Lena, Lois, and Bonnie.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at Spirit of Hope Holy Family Church, 4352 Peterboro Street, Vernon, NY on Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Helena's Cemetery, Middle Road, Oneida, NY.
