Obituary of Allen E. Johnson

Vernon-Allen E. Johnson, age 85, of Vernon passed away peacefully Friday evening February 23, 2024 in the Rome Grand Rehab and Nursing Facility after a brief stay.

  He was born on November 23, 1938 in Ann Arbor, MI the son of the late Edward A. and Ethel H. (Cheney) Johnson and was a graduate of the Stockbridge Valley Central School class of 1957.

  On January 21, 1959 Allen enlisted with the United States Navy and was honorably discharged on January 18, 1963.

  Allen and Barbara Abel were united on August 7, 1965 at the Redeemer Lutheran Church of Oneida and have shared that vow of over fifty-eight years together.

  After his retirement form H P Hood with over thirty-five years of service Allen volunteered as a driver for the Madison County Office for the Aging for fourteen years.

  Surviving is his wife, Barbara A. Johnson of Vernon, son, Thomas Johnson of Vernon, granddaughter, Ashley (Edgardo) Colon of Utica, great-grandchildren, Luca, Logan and Lincoln Colon, brothers-in-law, Frederick Abel of Knoxboro and LeRoy Abel of Oneida, sister-in-law, JoAnn Chamberlin of Oneida and several nieces and nephews.

  Allen was predeceased by a son James E. Johnson on January 18, 2022.  

  Family and friends are invited to call on Tuesday, February 27, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Malecki Funeral Home, 23 Front Street, Vernon, NY. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Robert Catherwood officiating. Burial will be in Crown Hill Memorial Park, Clinton, NY.
