Obituary of John A. McMinn Jr.

Verona-John A. McMinn, Jr., 80, of Greenway Road, Verona, passed away unexpectedly at his home on June 2, 2022. Born to John A. McMinn Sr. and Catherine Smith McMinn of Rome, New York on October 2, 1941. John was a dedicated employee of the United States Government at Griffiss Air Force Base and then Rome Laboratories until his retirement in 2007. John was a devoted parishioner and Vestry member of Zion Episcopal Church, an avid outdoorsman and a loving family man. On August 13, 2011 he was joined in marriage to Joyce Langford at Gethsemane Episcopal Church in Sherrill, NY. With this marriage, he gained an additional son, Michael McGranaghan (Robin) and daughter Cathy Misiaszek (Michael) and grandchildren Matthew, Nicholas, Rebecca, Sean, and Olivia. On November 28, 1970, John married Ellen Regner McMinn at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Verona and remained married until her death on October 15, 2005. In addition to his wife, Joyce, he is survived by his three children, John A. McMinn III (Karen Peck), of Edinboro, PA, children Cassandra Natal (German) and Paige McMinn; Tamira M. Brunt (Jeff) of Newport News, VA, children Rachel and Ryan; and Shana N. McMinn (Michael) of Syracuse, NY. He was predeceased by his parents, brother Kendrick, and many important and loving family members and friends. John was not only a memorable person, but a loving and devoted husband, father and friend to many over his 80 years. He will always be remembered for his wit, charm, and loving personality. Relatives and friends may call at Malecki Funeral Home, 23 Front Street, Vernon, NY from 3:00 to 6:00 pm on Tuesday, June 7th with services to immediately follow. Burial will be held on Wednesday June 8th at 11:00 a.m. at Crown Hill Memorial Park, Kirkland.
