Obituary of Paul H. Lindsay
Vernon-The sun shone on fresh new snow when Paul H Lindsay, age 77, of Vernon died at Oneida Health Center. This was the result of a brief illness and was one day after his 55th wedding anniversary.
Paul was born on May 25, 1944 in Ilion, New York, to Harold S. and Iva Fenner Lindsay, while his father served in WWII. He is survived by his wife, Diana Wallace Lindsay, his son Scott C. Lindsay, his sister Karen Lindsay Smith (R. David Smith) of Shelburne, VT, two nieces, several nephews, and a number of cousins.
He graduated from Frankfort High School in 1963 and then from Mohawk Valley Community College in 1966. He was called to serve in the Army Reserves during the Vietnam conflict and was a drill sergeant at Fort Dix, New Jersey.
Paul's career began in 1967 when he joined General Electric as a senior designer, receiving 5 patents for his work. He was promoted to be a mechanical project leader and travelled to 7 countries in Asia & Europe to transfer information & instruction to offshore vendors & facilities when the company became Thomson Consumer Electronics, Paul assumed the position of manager of mechanical design and coordinator of projects. After the company left the area, he formed his own company, Millennium Global Technologies, which provided engineering and technology prototyping. He traveled throughout Asia, doing work for such companies as Stanley Tools, BMW, and Niagara Mohawk, as well as for a number of private inventors.
At the beginning of his career, on 1/7/67, he married Diana Wallace at Plymouth Church in Sherrill. They were clearly focused on creating a home, and purchased land and built with their own hands the house they have occupied to the present. Their lives were blessed with the addition of their son, Scott C. Lindsay of Vernon, and the acres around their home were increased and enhanced into a fertile, natural area. The building of the house was done while both Paul and Diana worked full-time, and while he trained and volunteered as one of the early EMT's for the Vernon Center Volunteer Fire Department. He also served his community as a member of the Gideons, Plymouth Alliance Church, Vernon American Legion, and the Central New York Watercolor Guild.
In retirement Paul's curiosity and intelligence led him into a wide variety of interests. He became an accomplished water color artist and received the Best New Artist award at the Annual Central Adirondack Art Show in Old Forge after only six months of painting. He had a long, and loving relationship with the Amish community in the area. Paul was known as a skilled craftsman and leaves behind grandfather clocks, an Adirondack guideboat, furniture of all kinds, and many cherished paintings, including one of the Stillwater fire tower restoration. His legacy of generosity, love of family, kindness, courage, and solid faith are legendary, and his storytelling, ready wit and sense of fun will be remembered and retold for generations.
The family extends their sincere thanks to the Oneida Health Center and Dr. Vanderhoof for their exemplary care of Paul and his family in his final days. The family requests that Paul's memory be honored by contributions to the Plymouth Alliance Church or the Vernon Center Volunteer Fire Department.
