Obituary of John E. Upfold Sr.

Verona-John E. Upfold Sr., age 88, of Beacon Light Road passed away peacefully in his sleep with his family by his side Saturday April 17, 2021. He was born on November 29, 1932 in Syracuse, New York son of the late Alma Upfold. On November 20, 1954 John and Nina Hall were united in marriage in the Vernon Center Methodist Church and shared that loving union of over fifty-eight years together. He served in the United States Army and fought in the Korean War. In his spare time he liked to hunt, fish and go camping with his beloved wife, Nina. He enjoyed spending time with his family and gardening. He worked at Diemolding Corporation in Canastota for forty-four years retiring in 1998. He also worked in the Vernon Verona Sherrill School District for many years retiring in 1998. Surviving are his three daughters, Suzanne (Ross) Pritchard of Floyd, Colleen (Wayne) Waite of Oneida, Kimberly Upfold and Dan Phillips of Vernon; one son Jeffrey Upfold and Doreen Cole of Point Rock; eight beloved grandchildren, Tori, Troy, Sara, Lacie, Chad, Allison, Brooke and Jeremy; seven great-grandchildren, Addison, Evan, Sophia, Charliee, Sophie, Landon, Anthony and Emma, two sisters-in-law, Linda (Dan) Meacham of Florida and Carolyn (William) Hall of Munnsville; as well as several nieces and nephews.. John was predeceased by his wife Nina and son John E. Upfold Jr. Family and friends are invited to call on Wednesday April 21, 2021 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Malecki Funeral Home Inc., 23 Front Street, Vernon where face coverings and social distancing will be practiced.
