Robert H. “Bob” Barnes
Vernon Center-Robert H. “Bob” Barnes, age 77, of Arquint Road passed away peacefully Monday afternoon, March 13, 2017 at his home.
He was born on October 22, 1939 in Oneida, New York a son of the late Nathan and Dorothea (Volker) Barnes and was a graduate of V.V.S. Central School.
From 1960 to 1964 Bob proudly served with the United State Navy during the Viet Nam era.
On October 30, 1965 Bob and Beatrice “Bea” Collins were united in marriage in the Plymouth Church of Sherrill and shared this union of over fifty-one years together.
Prior to his retirement in 2002 Bob was employed as a corrections officer with the New York State Corrections Mohawk Division.
In his spare time he enjoyed four wheeling, hunting, fishing, watching NASCAR and raising beef cattle at his farm in Vernon Center. He was a fifty year member of the William Russell American Legion Post 404 of Vernon where he served as a past Commander in 1970.
Surviving are his wife Bea Barnes of Vernon Center, two sons, Brad A. and daughter-in-law Jennifer Barnes of Vernon, Lee N. Barnes of Vernon Center, one daughter Robin Barnes and companion Ronald Corollo of Rome, four grandchildren, Tyler Barnes, Tiara Wilson, Brooke and Julianna Molnar, one sister Cynthia and brother-in-law Richard Heysler of Sherrill, sister-in-law Janet and brother-in-law Ron Lenhart of Vernon Center, several nieces and nephews and a special thank you to his friends, Ed, Carl, Buddy and his friends at the hunting club.
In keeping with Bob’s wishes there will be no calling hours and no funeral services. Arrangements are with the Malecki Funeral Home of Vernon. Online condolences may be sent to maleckifuneralhome.com
