Jessie L. Mayer
Oneida-Jessie L. (Paquette) Mayer, 82, of Oneida, passed away at home, Friday, with her loving husband of 59 years by her side. She was born in Oneida, NY on June 22, 1933. She grew up in Kenwood.
Jessie was the salutatorian of the Sherrill High School class of 1951. She attended Pembroke College (associated with Brown University) on an art scholarship. She was a homemaker most of her life. She and her husband, Bob, raised eight children. They were married in Oneida on Sept. 11, 1956. For a number of years, she worked as a commercial artist. In 1990, she became the editor of the Oneida Community Journal, a position she proudly held for 19 years.
Jessie was a ravenous reader. She was an avid bird watcher. She loved to spend time with her family. She was a wonderful cook.
After Bob retired, they traveled together. They spent time in Florida, Louisiana, the Virgin Islands, Canada, Washington, D.C., and many of the north and southeastern states.
Jessie was predeceased by her parents, Paul and Sylvia (Noyes) Paquette. She was a great-granddaughter of John Humphrey Noyes and granddaughter of John Humphrey Noyes II and Dr. Hilda Herrick Noyes.
She is survived by her husband, W. Robert Mayer, and six daughters, Karin Mayer-Gottlob (Brian) of Dover, NH, Margaret Morrison (Malcolm) of Madison, AL, Charlotte Mayer-Florian (John) of Canandaigua, NY, Frieda Mayer-Allen (Jay) of Liverpool, NY , Roberta of Victor, NY, and Hilda Walters (Jason) of Oneida, NY, and two sons, Eric of Canton, NY, and David of Middletown, NY, two sisters, Nola DeSimone and Adele Mitchell (Les), two nephews, Peter and Paul Gebhardt, and eight grandchildren, Gabrielle, Erika, and Alexis Gottlob, Vaughn and Grace Florian, Emily and Lily Allen, and Sylvia Walters.
The family will hold a private service in Jessie's memory on Mother's Day.
The family would like to especially thank Jessie's caregivers: Lynda Anderson, Amy Bryant, Veronica Hairston, Diana Harp, Barbara and Ashley Craver, Heather Neal, Cheryl Wilkinson, Beverly Johnson, and the Hospice nurses who enabled us to keep her home and comfortable for the last nine months.
