Unfortunately I read Thursday's paper after dinner so missed the opportunity to pay my respects to Daryl personally; I am truly sorry about that. Back in the roaring 60's, when we were both in our 20's, Daryl and I had some heroic adventures together, which I've always looked back on with some amazement and great fondness. And who could ever forget his beautiful 1957 black Chevrolet convertible with a red interior? Not me for sure. Probably near the beginning of my appreciation for cars I would call special.
Back in 1991 I hadn't seen Daryl in quite a few years but when asked he readily agreed to drive the tractor pulling the Kinsley St. float in Sherrill's 75th anniversary parade. What a guy.
Memories from your youth can never be replaced, and Daryl is certainly a large part of mine. Thank you my good and old friend, rest in peace.
