We are so sorry for the family and friends of Fr. Mesmer passing. I was a former Boy Scoutmaster and we were privileged to have him not only at Mass, and First Communions, but at several of our Eagle Scout Court of Honor Ceremonies, he always was there with prayers and encouraging words. He will always be remembered by his dedication and friendly smile. Thank you Fr. Mesmer.

Q: What was one of your favorite qualities of Rev. William?
A: Whatever his flock needed, Father Bill strove to provide. When in 2019 my bestie of 50 years Barb and I began a 2-month , 11,000 mile “lap around America”, Father was kind enough to bless us, and the car. It certainly took… not a problem arose the entire trip! Thank you, Father Bill, for your gift of priesthood.

Father Mesmer’s family…I am so deeply sorry to see of his passing. We are distant cousins. His maternal grandmother and my paternal great grandmother were sisters. My Dad is Robert Mesmer. My family attended his 1st Mass as a newly ordained priest! I felt so honored! Just a few short years ago my niece got married at St. Helena’s, and Father was on the altar overseeing the wedding. It truly was an honor to see him there. I remember speaking with him over the phone shortly after that asking some questions in regards to some findings that were on Ancestry. The Mesmer name and its history in the Syracuse area is amazing! God bless you all..I wish I could attend the services, but I am out of state. You are all in my thoughts and prayers…God bless you Father Bill…Love..Mary Mesmer Giblin

This is a letter of thanks to Fr Mesmer, who has been pivotal in my faith life. Who enabled me to begin my faith journey and meet the people who have improved my life. Thank you for pulling me aside all those years ago, for your everlasting love for me and all of us, and for your support over the years.
I prayed to the Holy Spirit to guide me in giving thanks and to ask if one person had guided me more than the rest. It came into my heart that you, Father Mesmer, were the answer I sought from The Holy Spirit. When I first arrived at St Helena’s, I was trepidated, but you greeted me with a warm smile and a friendly embrace and made me feel at home. Within a few weeks of coming to mass at St Helena’s Parish, I felt at home and felt like I had been at St Helena’s for years instead of weeks. I am happy that you heard God’s calling because, Father Mesmer, I did not hear God very well; I joined the Children's Ministry because of you, and because of you, I am a catechist. You led me to be confirmed in Christ. What an amazing transformation that was! I could feel the Holy Spirit opening my eyes, ears, and heart even more to God, which brought me to where I am today. I was in church, and when asked to pray silently in our hearts, I prayed for guidance for my faith life and heard a voice tell me, now is the time; if Father Mesmer were pastor here today, he would pull you aside again. I have finished Formation for Ministry, am now a commissioned lay minister, and have also become a lector and eucharistic minister. I regret that you are not at our church to pull me aside. To offer me words of encouragement. To guide me when I feel confused or when I feel overwhelmed. That you’re not here to tell me that you love me and to tell all of us that you love us, as you always did. May God grant you eternal peace.
