Obituary of Kenneth P. Smith

Verona-Kenneth Smith, age 78, of Verona passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday afternoon, August 6, 2024 surrounded by the love and care of his family. He was born on January 31, 1946 in Oneida, New York a son of the late William F. and Mildred (Snider) Smith and was a graduate of the Vernon Veron Sherrill School class of 1965. After graduation Ken enlisted with the United States Marine Corp in 1966 and served during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in 1968. On October 1, 1976 Ken and Mary L. Hanisee were united in marriage in St. Catherine's Church of Vernon Center and have shared that sacred vow of over forty-seven years together. Prior to his retirement Ken was employed as a maintenance supervisor with the Oneida Limited Silversmiths. Ken was a communicant of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church of Verona. In his spare times he enjoyed hunting, sailing, scuba diving, traveling and camping with his wife Mary. He relished the times he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Surviving is his wife, Mary L. Smith, children, Steven (Diane) Seelman, Stacie (Philip) Palazzo, his beloved grandchildren, Kim (Tony) Rinaldo, Steven (Britt) Seelman Jr., Megan (Ant) Spina, Andrew Seelman, Corinne Palazzo and Aaron Palazzo, three great-grandchildren, CeCe, Amelia and Maddie, one brother Robert (Donna) Smith, two sisters Joyce and Jean Smith; and numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Ken was predeceased by his sister Norma Smith. Family and friends are invited to call on Sunday, August 11, 2024 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Malecki Funeral Home Inc., 23 Front Street, Vernon, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, August 12, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 5652 Main Street, Verona, NY with Pastor Rev. Edmund Castronovo celebrant.
